Eight Killed, Two Injured in Van Crash in Kasur District

KASUR: A tragic road accident in the Kasur district claimed the lives of at least eight people and left two others critically injured on Friday. The incident occurred near Khara Morr on Raiwind Road when a van, carrying passengers returning from a wedding in Raiwind, veered off the road and plunged into a ravine.

According to rescue officials, the accident was caused by the driver falling asleep at the wheel, leading the vehicle to crash into a water-filled area. Emergency teams were swiftly deployed to the scene, recovering the bodies of the deceased and transporting the injured to Bulleh Shah District Hospital. Hospital sources confirmed that two of the injured are in critical condition.

Local police have launched an investigation into the accident and are in the process of identifying the victims.

In the last 24 hours, Punjab has witnessed a spate of road accidents, with 1,306 incidents reported across various districts. According to The News, these accidents resulted in 18 fatalities and 1,496 injuries. Of the injured, 612 people were transferred to hospitals for serious treatment, while 884 victims with minor injuries received medical care at the scene.

The authorities are emphasizing road safety in light of the rising number of accidents in the region.
