The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that the quake registered 4.8 on the Richter scale. Its epicentre was traced to a point roughly 58 kilometres southwest of Jhelum.
Tremors were widely felt across Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Jhang, and the Pothohar region. Smaller towns including Malakwal, Phalia, Bhera, Kharian, Pattoki, Sarai Alamgir, and Arifwala also experienced the shaking.
In Mandi Bahauddin, buildings visibly shook, prompting frightened residents to rush into open spaces. Many were seen reciting prayers and verses from the Holy Quran as the tremors continued.
Shopkeepers across affected areas quickly closed their businesses as a safety precaution. Fear and uncertainty gripped local markets and residential neighbourhoods for several hours after the quake.
District administrations and emergency response teams were immediately deployed across affected areas. Officials began inspecting buildings and public infrastructure to confirm there was no hidden structural damage.
PDMA assured the public that the situation remained under control. Authorities urged citizens to stay calm, avoid rumours, and follow official safety guidelines in the coming hours.
