Pakistan Assured Of Qatar Gas Supplies For Winter Months

Government Continues Targeted Petrol Subsidies For Low-Income Citizens: Petroleum Minister

ISLAMABAD: (Finance Reporter) – Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has assured that Pakistan will continue receiving adequate gas supplies from Qatar during December and January, addressing concerns over the country’s energy security amid uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a convocation ceremony at a private university in Lahore on Sunday, the minister said gas imports from Qatar were continuing and supplies were expected to remain sufficient throughout the coming two months.

He acknowledged that uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz had influenced international oil and gas prices, creating additional challenges for countries dependent on energy imports, including Pakistan.

Malik said Pakistan had successfully navigated the challenges of the past six months despite fluctuations in international energy markets and uncertainty over supply routes.

The petroleum minister also said the government was following a transparent mechanism for determining petroleum prices, ensuring that consumers were charged in accordance with prevailing international market trends.

Highlighting measures aimed at protecting financially vulnerable households, Malik said the government was continuing to provide targeted petrol subsidies to low-income segments of society.

He added that the relief initiative was intended to minimise the impact of rising energy costs on household budgets and provide financial support to deserving citizens.
