Digital Lottery Launched for Free Solar Panel Scheme in Skardu
Skardu Lottery Selects 2,677 Beneficiaries for Free Solar Panels
Skardu (Web Desk) – A digital lottery was conducted at the District Administration Complex in Skardu for the transparent allocation of solar panels under the Free Solar Panel Scheme launched by the Prime Minister of Pakistan for Gilgit-Baltistan. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Skardu, Talha Asad, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nisar Hussain, Assistant Commissioner Ehsan-ul-Haq, relevant departmental officers, and members of the media. Deputy Commissioner Skardu Hamza Murad officially launched the digital balloting process by pressing the ceremonial button.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner revealed that a total of 9,301 applications were received from Skardu district for the first phase of the Free Solar Panel Scheme. Out of these, 2,677 applicants were selected through the digital lottery, including 2,275 domestic users and 402 IT and business users.
He explained that under the scheme, Skardu was allocated a total quota of 8.2 MW, with 6 MW for domestic users and 2.2 MW reserved for IT and business users. The Deputy Commissioner highlighted that the scheme is expected to increase private power generation in Skardu by approximately 7.7 MW, helping meet the city’s growing electricity demand.
Digital Balloting Begins for Free Solar Scheme in Gilgit-Baltistan
Deputy Commissioner Murad further stated that the second phase of the scheme will commence soon. A committee under the Water and Power Department has been formed to finalize the procedure for distributing panels, and the next distribution phase is expected to begin in the coming days.
