Dangerous heat wave to grip much of United States
Temperatures to exceed 100F during holiday celebrations
WASHINGTON: (Web Desk) – A dangerous heat wave is expected to engulf large parts of the central and eastern United States from Tuesday through the July 4 holiday weekend, with forecasters warning of life-threatening temperatures and high humidity.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to climb above 100°F (38°C), while high humidity will push heat index values even higher, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
The agency also warned that overnight temperatures will remain unusually warm, with many areas experiencing lows in the mid- to upper-70s, offering little relief from the daytime heat.
Authorities have urged residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day and check on elderly neighbours and other vulnerable people.

The heat wave comes as the United States prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its independence, with Washington set to host what organisers describe as the largest fireworks display in the country’s history.
The extreme weather is also expected to affect the ongoing FIFA World Cup knockout stage matches, with several fixtures scheduled in sweltering conditions.
Scientists say increasingly frequent, prolonged and intense heat waves are among the clearest consequences of climate change, a trend also seen recently across parts of Europe.
