Diaz Leads Colombia Past World Cup Debutants Uzbekistan
Mexico City: (Web Desk) – Colombia began their FIFA World Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over tournament debutants Uzbekistan in Mexico City, moving to the top of Group K after an impressive all-round performance led by Luis Diaz.
The Liverpool forward was central to Colombia’s success, providing the assist for the opening goal before scoring himself in a dominant display that highlighted his influence in attack.
Colombia started brightly and created early chances, with Jhon Arias narrowly missing the target in the 17th minute. Diaz also came close to breaking the deadlock when his curling effort struck the post midway through the first half.
The breakthrough came five minutes before the interval when Diaz delivered a precise pass over the Uzbek defence to Daniel Munoz, who finished smartly with the outside of his boot to give Colombia a deserved lead.

However, Colombia quickly responded, regaining the lead just five minutes later. Diaz’s low effort slipped through the goalkeeper’s hands to mark his first World Cup goal.

The result gave Colombia a strong start to their World Cup campaign, showcasing their attacking strength and depth, while Uzbekistan earned a historic milestone despite the defeat through their first-ever World Cup goal.
