Punjab Launches New Education Reforms With Digital School Initiatives

LAHORE: (Staff Reporter) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to personally teach a class at a school every week as part of efforts to strengthen education reforms across the province.

The directive was issued during a special meeting chaired by the chief minister to review ongoing initiatives in the school education sector, including the digital registration system for private schools and measures aimed at improving educational standards.

During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz sought recommendations for the registration of tuition centres across Punjab and instructed officials to develop a digital mapping system to monitor and regulate such centres.

Officials provided a detailed briefing on the Punjab School Reforms Programme (PSRP), the current state of school education, and possible new revenue opportunities for the education sector.

The meeting was informed that Punjab had achieved its target of enrolling 4.3 million students in government schools within two years and four months. Officials said the province had recorded the highest level of genuine enrolment in public schools in recent years.

The chief minister also approved mandatory digital salary payments for teachers working under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF). Under the initiative, bank accounts will be opened for around 138,000 PEF teachers to ensure transparent and efficient payment systems.

The Punjab government said the reforms are aimed at improving accountability, expanding access to education, and strengthening digital management systems across the province.
