CCD Bahawalpur Encounter: Multan Orphan Murder Suspect Tauqeer Nazir Killed

Police say the main suspect in the Waseem Abbas killing escaped custody during remand and died in an exchange of fire.

Multan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – A CCD Bahawalpur encounter has ended the life of Tauqeer Nazir, the prime suspect in the brutal killing of an orphaned teenager in Multan. Police shared the news early on Wednesday.

Tauqeer was wanted for the murder of Waseem Abbas. Police say he had escaped from the custody of Multan’s DHA police station while he was on a four-day physical remand.

CCD District Officer Irfan Akbar gave details of the incident. He said a police team tried to stop two men riding a motorcycle near the Northern Bypass in Bahawalpur.

According to him, the two men opened fire on the police while trying to run away. The police team returned fire, and the exchange ended with Tauqeer’s death.

The CCD official said Tauqeer was hit by bullets fired by his own accomplice. The accomplice managed to escape from the scene.

A judicial magistrate in Multan had handed Tauqeer over to police on a four-day physical remand. Police wanted to question him about the teenager’s murder.

He was also reportedly attacked by some lawyers when he appeared in court on Tuesday.

Many questions are still unanswered. Police have not explained how Tauqeer escaped from custody while on remand. They have also not said how he reached Bahawalpur or when he got away.

Police added that another suspect, Amjad, is still on the run in the same case.

Waseem Abbas was an orphan who lived in an NGO-run orphanage. About a week before his death, he was sent to work with Tauqeer so he could learn electrical work.

The teenager reportedly wanted to leave the job because of bad treatment. Police say he ran away from his workplace one day.

Police claim Tauqeer then followed him in a car and ran him over in Multan’s Royal Orchard housing society. CCTV footage of the incident shows the boy running before the vehicle hits him.

Police also said their early investigation found no proof that Waseem was involved in any theft.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari had earlier said that Tauqeer and Amjad chased the teenager for nearly one kilometre before running him over.

A murder case has been registered against the suspects under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Police have also detained several orphanage staff members for questioning.

Waseem belonged to Muzaffargarh district. He was laid to rest in his family graveyard in Daultpur village.

The case has shocked many people, as the victim was a young boy with no parents. Now, people are waiting for police to share clear details about the custody escape and the encounter.
