Australia Girl Shot Dead After Police Mistake Family Car for Robbers

Chakwal – (Web Desk) – An Australia girl shot dead in Chakwal has left a family shattered and a nation shocked. Nine-year-old Hania Ahmed, an Australian citizen, was killed after police opened fire on her family’s rental car, mistaking it for the vehicle of armed robbers.

Hania had travelled to Chakwal with her father Adeel Ahmed, mother Dr Sidra Khan, and brother Aafan Ahmed to visit relatives. It was supposed to be a quiet family trip. Instead, it turned into a tragedy no family should ever face.

The incident began around 11:40pm on Wednesday. Two armed men on a motorcycle stopped outside a relative’s home and demanded jewellery at gunpoint. The family handed over valuables worth approximately $7,500. A police officer who witnessed the robbery nearby rushed back to his station to collect his weapon.

When the officer returned, he exchanged gunfire with the robbers, who then fled on their motorcycle. As the chaos unfolded, Adeel Ahmed quickly drove his family away from the scene to protect them.

However, police saw the car moving fast and assumed it also belonged to the robbers. Officers opened fire without confirming who was inside.

A police official later admitted: “As the cops saw the vehicle being driven away immediately, they took it as belonging to the robbers and opened indiscriminate fire on the car.”

Adeel managed to drive to a nearby relative’s gate before losing control and crashing. The family was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital. Hania was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her father and brother Aafan were transferred to Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi for surgery. Adeel has since been discharged. Aafan remains in hospital recovering. Dr Sidra Khan was physically unharmed.

The incident has sparked outrage both in Pakistan and Australia over police accountability and the use of force in public spaces.
