Asma Abbas Criticises Growing Brand Obsession Among Youngsters

‘Even Socks Need Logos’: Asma Abbas on Brand Obsession

ISLAMABAD: (News Desk) –  Veteran Pakistani actress Asma Abbas has expressed concern over the growing obsession with designer brands among young people, saying the trend has made even everyday shopping unnecessarily complicated.

During a recent interview, the actress observed that people increasingly identify bags, wallets and other accessories by their brand names rather than simply referring to the items themselves.

She humorously remarked that even socks now seem to require visible logos to establish their worth, highlighting what she sees as an excessive focus on labels.

Contrasting the trend with her own approach to shopping, Asma said she remains comfortable purchasing items from traditional Sunday markets, commonly known as Itwar Bazaar.

The actress also credited her upbringing with helping her children avoid unnecessary pressure to follow brand-conscious fashion trends. She shared that her family has bought clothes from Landay markets and continues to select items according to personal preference rather than their labels or place of purchase.

Asma’s comments have sparked discussion about consumer habits, fashion choices and the growing importance some people place on designer brands.

A respected name in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, Asma Abbas is known for her performances in numerous television dramas. She is the sister of veteran actress Bushra Ansari and television host Sumbul Shahid, and the mother of actors Zara Noor Abbas and Ahmed Abbas.
