Air India CEO Campbell Wilson resigns as Tata faces record losses.
Wilson Leaves Mid Contract as Air India Battles Safety Concerns and Financial Losses
Air India – (Web Desk) – Air India’s top boss Campbell Wilson has stepped down. The news came out on Tuesday through local media reports. Wilson is originally from New Zealand and had been running the airline since 2022. That was the same year Tata Group took over Air India from the government.
Nobody has clearly said why he decided to leave. But the airline has been going through a tough time lately. There have been several safety issues and flight disruptions that put Air India under the government’s radar.
What makes this more surprising is that Wilson was not supposed to leave yet. He still had time left on his contract. The Press Trust of India reported that he quit before his five year term was even over.
So far neither Air India nor Tata Group has come out and made any official statement about the whole thing.
The good news is that Wilson is not walking out the door right away. He will stay on and keep doing his job until the company finds someone new to take his place.
During his tenure, efforts to modernise the fleet, improve service standards and integrate operations have faced headwinds, including supply chain disruptions, aircraft delivery delays and rising costs.

But the major setback during Wilson’s tenure was the crash of Air India Flight 171 in June 2025.
The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad, killing all but one of the 242 people on board and 19 on the ground.
