Election Commission Initiates Training Program for Staff

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has commenced a training program for election staff based on priority criteria for the upcoming 2024 general elections. According to the ECP spokesperson in Islamabad, training has been completed for 579,191 individuals so far, with the remaining 462,222 to be trained by February 1, 2024.

The spokesperson mentioned that the Election Commission initiated training for 985,413 individuals in the last week of November. The training encompasses staff roles in District Returning Officers (DROs), ROs, Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers, and others involved in the electoral process. Strict disciplinary actions are being taken against absentees in the training sessions.

As part of the anti-absenteeism measures, a Central Control Room has been operational since December 26, monitoring the progress. The spokesperson reported that 45 complaints have been received in the Central Control Room so far, and all issues have been promptly addressed.

The spokesperson also highlighted that 165 complaints related to the sealing process were immediately addressed by issuing directives to relevant authorities. Furthermore, central control rooms are active at provincial, divisional, and district levels, with monitoring teams deployed in all districts across the country.

Emphasizing ethical standards, the spokesperson mentioned that District Monitoring Officers are issuing notes on violations of the code of conduct. The Election Commission aims to ensure a smooth electoral process by implementing rigorous training and monitoring mechanisms in the run-up to the 2024 general elections.
