Islamabad(Mudasser Chuhdary)_A day after Shehbaz Sharif and Raja Riaz’s first round of talks, President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday reminded the prime minister and leader of the opposition in the outgoing National Assembly to propose a “suitable person” for the interim premier by August 12 (Saturday).

The president emphasised that the proposed candidate’s name, as per constitutional requirement, was to be put forward within three days of the dissolution of the National Assembly.

On Aug 9, President Alvi dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In the first round of discussion on Thursday, the prime minister and the leader of the opposition exchanged six names for the caretaker premier.

Both Shehbaz Sharif and Raja Riaz are scheduled to hold a second round of consultation to finalise the much-awaited appointment of the caretaker prime minister.

Following an initial meeting that produced no conclusive outcome, both leaders are expected to continue discussions in order to reach a decision in line with the constitutional requirements.

Shehbaz Sharif on Friday expressed the hope that the decision on the name of caretaker prime minister would be finalised by Saturday.The prime minister, in a farewell interaction with the PM beat reporters here, said he would meet the heads of coalition parties on Friday night to discuss the matter which would follow his meeting with Leader of the Opposition Raja Riaz on Friday or Saturday.

Outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sent invitations to Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Friday for the appointment of a caretaker prime minister. He has also summoned a meeting of the PDM and parties that were part of a coalition government.

PM Shehbaz Sharif has also Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Khalid Magsi, Sajid Mir, Owais Noorani, Sajid Ali Khan, Aimal Wali Khan, Abdul Malik Baloch, Aftab Sherpao and other members of alliance parties on dinner, sources told Aaj News.

They added that the prime minister would continue consultations with Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Raja Riaz on Friday (today) for the caretaker cabinet. It’s a second day for deliberation.

Separation from consultation process

PML-N Senator Ishaq Dar said in an informal talk with journalists that he has separated himself from the process of consultation over the caretaker prime minister.

“Nullification of review and judgement act was not a problem. PML-N will make political and legal strategies about the court ruling and discuss this with legal experts. While the decision regarding ex-PM Nawaz Sharif’s returns will be taken after discussion,” he added.
