ICC Fines Pakistan for Slow Over-Rate After Tri-Series Final Win
Pakistan lifted the trophy at Gaddafi Stadium, but a one-over shortfall has cost the team a small fine.
ICC – ICC fines Pakistan five per cent of their match fee for bowling too slowly in the ODI Tri-Series 2026 final. The match was played against Sri Lanka in Lahore on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
The International Cricket Council shared the news in a statement on Monday. The penalty came just two days after Pakistan won the title.
Pakistan were punished under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This rule covers minimum over-rate offences in international games.
Under the rule, a team loses five per cent of its match fee for every over it fails to bowl in the given time. The fine applies to each player in the side.
After the match, officials counted the overs and added the time allowances. Pakistan were found to be one over short of the required rate.
Jeff Crowe, a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, confirmed the charge. Because the gap was only one over, the fine stayed at five per cent.
The penalty did not take anything away from the team’s win on the field. Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by three wickets at Gaddafi Stadium to claim the trophy.
Sri Lanka set a tough target of 326 runs. Pakistan chased it down with a score of 331 for 7 in 48.3 overs.
The hosts finished the job with nine balls to spare. The home crowd in Lahore stayed loud until the very last run.
Slow over-rates are a common issue in modern cricket. The ICC has kept strict rules to make sure matches finish on time and fans get a full game.
For Pakistan, the fine is a small setback in an otherwise happy week. The team will now want to fix its bowling pace before the next series.
