Mohammad Amir Enters Afghanistan Premier League Draft as UK Player

The former Pakistan fast bowler is listed in the Platinum category and may not need a PCB clearance to play.

Karachi – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Mohammad Amir has registered for the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) draft, which will be held in Dubai on Tuesday, according to media reports.

The former Pakistan pacer now lives in England and holds British citizenship. In the draft list, he appears as a UK national, while Pakistan is shown as his country of residence.

Amir has been placed in the Platinum category, the top group in the draft.

He played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20 Internationals for Pakistan. His last match for the national team came against Ireland at the T20 World Cup in Lauderhill, Florida, in June 2024.

Because he is listed as a UK national, Amir may not need a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). His former Pakistan teammates do need one.

More than 30 Pakistani players have also signed up for the draft. They include Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Hasan Ali, Shan Masood, Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim.

However, their place in the league is still unclear. Reports say there are diplomatic tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the PCB is unlikely to give NOCs to its players.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has also made it clear that Pakistani players can take part only if they get an NOC from the PCB.

The APL will have five teams. Each team can sign up to 18 players, with 11 to 12 from Afghanistan and six to seven overseas players.

Players are placed in five groups. Platinum players will earn $100,000, Diamond $65,000, Gold $40,000, Silver $20,000 and Emerging players $10,000.

Each team will have a total player budget between $650,000 and $750,000.
