The Oscar-nominated producer will oversee the opening and closing ceremonies, bringing Hollywood magic to the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Los Angeles – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – Kennedy has been given one of the biggest jobs in sport and entertainment. Film producer Kathleen Kennedy will oversee the opening and closing ceremonies at the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
Organisers shared the news on Wednesday. Kennedy, 73, will serve as head of ceremonies and content.
She has been nominated for eight Academy Awards. Her first producing credit came on Steven Spielberg’s 1982 film “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.”
Her other work includes “Jurassic Park” and “Schindler’s List.” She also produced the latest “Star Wars” films.
Kennedy will act as executive producer for the ceremonies. They will be held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium.
LA28 chairperson and president Casey Wasserman praised her work. He called her one of Hollywood’s all-time greats with a rare gift for storytelling. He said no one is better placed to bring the magic of Hollywood to the Games.
Kennedy said the Olympics have meant a lot to her. She and her husband, producer Frank Marshall, have attended almost every Games since Los Angeles in 1984. She said sport is one of the great shared experiences in their lives.
The Olympic Opening Ceremony will take place on July 14, 2028. The Closing Ceremony follows on July 30.
The Paralympic Opening Ceremony is set for August 15. The Closing Ceremony will be held at the Coliseum on August 27.
