Pakistan Named Among 14 Teams for Inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup

LAHORE: (Sports Desk) – Pakistan will participate in the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup, with the tournament featuring 14 national teams and matches scheduled to be played in Indonesia and Hong Kong later this month.

The 11 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will be joined by three guest teams — Pakistan, Bangladesh and Hong Kong — for the tournament beginning September 24.

Eight teams will compete in Division 1, including hosts Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The Division 1 teams will be divided into two groups of four, with the group winners advancing to the final scheduled for October 5.

Hong Kong will host Division 2, which will feature Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Timor-Leste alongside the hosts. The teams will be split into two groups of three, with the winners meeting in the final on October 3.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the FIFA ASEAN Cup was launched to provide national teams with meaningful competitive opportunities and strengthen football ties across Southeast Asia.
