AJK Officials Allege Militants Involved in Awami Action Committee

MUZAFFARABAD: (Staff Reporter) – Azad Jammu and Kashmir Information Secretary Rashid Hanif has alleged that armed elements and members of the banned Awami Action Committee are involved in activities aimed at disrupting law and order.

Addressing a press conference alongside the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Police spokesperson, Hanif said attempts had been made to influence the electoral process in the region. He said maintaining peace and security remained the state’s primary responsibility.

The information secretary claimed that individuals linked to militant groups, which he referred to as “Fitna-ul-Khawarij,” were present within the banned committee. He alleged that the committee included fewer ordinary members while armed elements were using the platform for unlawful activities.

Hanif said security institutions had evidence regarding the alleged involvement of militants in the movement and accused miscreants of using civilians as a shield during protests.

He urged citizens to remain connected with official channels and law enforcement agencies to avoid misinformation and misleading reports.

Speaking on the occasion, the AJK Police spokesperson alleged that the elements involved possessed modern and automatic weapons. He said five police personnel had been injured in firing incidents linked to these groups.

The allegations made by AJK officials could not be independently verified, and no response from representatives of the Awami Action Committee was available immediately.
