NDMA Warns of Rising Flood Threat Across Pakistan

Islamabad: (Special Reporter) – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a fresh flood warning as ongoing monsoon rains continue to raise water levels in rivers and streams across Pakistan.

According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), medium-level flooding has been recorded at Khanki, Qadirabad and Chiniot Bridge along the Chenab River, while Palkhu Nala at Wazirabad is also flowing at a medium flood level. Water levels in the Chenab are expected to rise further over the next 24 hours, with Trimmu Barrage likely to reach medium flood level.

The authority also warned of possible flash floods in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, seasonal streams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and parts of northern Balochistan during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Meanwhile, urban flooding is likely in Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Multan, Sialkot, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad due to continued heavy rainfall.

The NDMA has advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel to flood-affected areas, refrain from crossing flooded roads or fast-flowing streams, and stay away from riverbanks and landslide-prone mountainous regions. Relevant authorities have been directed to remain on high alert and ensure a rapid emergency response where required.
