Tank District Checkpost Attack July 2026: 12 Militants Killed, 15 Security Personnel Martyred

TANK KP – (Staff Correspondent/Web Desk) – The Tank district checkpost attack July 2026 has shaken Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after militants tried to storm a joint police checkpost late Friday night. Pakistan’s security forces acted fast and stopped the attackers from reaching their goal.

The attack happened between the night of July 23 and 24. Armed militants tried to break into the checkpost, but troops on duty responded quickly and pushed them back.

According to the military’s media wing, ISPR, troops chased the fleeing attackers and killed 12 of them during the clash. The militants belonged to a group known as Fitna al-Khawarij, which Pakistan says gets support from India.

Even after their first attempt failed, the attackers did not give up. They rammed a vehicle packed with explosives into the checkpost’s outer wall.

The blast was strong. It badly damaged the checkpost building and took the lives of 15 people. Among them were 12 army soldiers, two police officers, and one worker from the forest department.

Security forces are now carrying out a cleanup operation in the area. Their goal is to find and remove any militants still hiding nearby.

ISPR said that Pakistan’s fight against terrorism will continue under the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign. This plan was approved earlier by the Federal Apex Committee as part of the National Action Plan. Its main aim is to stop terrorism backed by foreign elements.

The military also promised to keep protecting the country. Officials said the bravery of the fallen soldiers will only make their resolve stronger.

President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the attack. He praised the forces for killing 12 militants and honored the soldiers and police who lost their lives.

He prayed for the families of the martyrs and said Pakistan will never forget their sacrifice. He also said that such attacks are attempts to harm Pakistan’s peace efforts, but vowed these plans will never succeed.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also spoke out against the attack. He praised the courage shown by security forces during the operation.

The PM expressed deep sadness over the loss of army personnel, police officers, and the forest department worker. He also prayed for strength for the grieving families left behind.

Shehbaz Sharif said the government will not stop until terrorism is fully wiped out from Pakistan. He confirmed that security operations will continue with full strength.

Since 2021, when the Afghan Taliban took power, Pakistan has faced a rise in terror attacks, mostly in KP and Balochistan. To counter cross-border attacks from Afghanistan, Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq earlier this year in February.

The Tank district checkpost attack July 2026 is another reminder of the ongoing security challenges Pakistan faces. Still, officials say the nation’s forces remain determined to protect its people and defeat terrorism completely.
