Pakistan Army vows firm response to terrorism and hybrid threats

Military leadership reviews security challenges at 276th Corps Commanders Conference

ISLAMABAD: (Special Reporter) – Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir chaired the 276th Corps Commanders Conference at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, where Pakistan’s senior military leadership reviewed the country’s security situation and reaffirmed its resolve to protect national sovereignty and counter terrorism.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the forum offered Fateha for personnel of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians who lost their lives in terrorist incidents. The participants said the sacrifices of martyrs remain central to Pakistan’s security, unity and national resilience.

The conference expressed satisfaction over the operational preparedness, professional standards and combat readiness of the armed forces. It also reviewed measures being taken to address conventional, sub-conventional and hybrid security challenges.

The forum voiced serious concern over what it described as the use of territory controlled by the Afghan Taliban by Indian-backed militant groups, including Fitna al Khawarij and Fitna al Hindustan, for attacks inside Pakistan. The participants said regional peace requires preventing the use of Afghan territory by militant proxies and held the Afghan Taliban authorities responsible for ensuring their territory is not used against Pakistan.

Military leaders reiterated Pakistan’s right to defend its people from terrorism and said intelligence-based operations against militant threats would continue under Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq. The forum also stressed the need for stronger governance, public services and welfare measures in affected areas, alongside action against the alleged nexus between terrorism, crime and political patronage.

The participants noted that hostile elements were increasingly using externally supported hybrid warfare and disinformation campaigns to create instability. The forum condemned state-backed financing and facilitation of proxy groups, saying attempts to undermine Pakistan through hybrid tactics would be countered with strategic clarity and firm resolve.

Reviewing regional developments, the conference appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue, de-escalation and regional stability. It reaffirmed the country’s commitment to peaceful dispute resolution, international law and regional cooperation.

The forum also discussed Indian statements regarding the Indus Waters Treaty and reaffirmed the National Security Committee’s directive issued on April 24, 2025. It said Pakistan would take all necessary measures to secure its rightful share of water in line with government policy.

The military leadership condemned alleged human rights violations and demographic changes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The forum reiterated Pakistan’s diplomatic, political and moral support for the Kashmiri people and said lasting peace in the region depends on their right to self-determination under United Nations Security Council resolutions.

In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Asim Munir directed commanders to accelerate the implementation of the military’s multi-domain transformation plan. He also instructed them to maintain high levels of vigilance, readiness and professional excellence to address evolving threats and protect Pakistan’s national interests.
