Coast Guards Check-Post Attack Kills Three, Injures 15 in Gwadar
Targets Coast Guards Check-Post Near Gwadar
QUETTA – (Web Desk) – A Coast Guards check-post attack in Balochistan has left three security men dead and 15 others wounded, police said on Saturday. The bomber rammed an explosive-packed truck into the post late Friday night.
The blast struck the Panwan check-post, roughly 10 kilometers from Jiwani in Gwadar district. Gwadar sits at the heart of the $60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, making it a frequent target for militant groups.
The banned Baloch Liberation Army owned the attack, saying its Majeed Brigade carried it out.
Senior police officer Atta-ur-Rehman Khan Tareen told reporters that 18 troops from the Pakistan Army and Coast Guards were on duty when the truck struck the post.
“Two soldiers from the Army and one from the Coast Guards lost their lives,” Tareen said. “Fifteen others were hurt, and one of them is in critical condition.”
Gwadar’s deep-sea port gives it major economic value for Pakistan, linking trade routes between China, Central Asia, and the Middle East. But growing violence in the province keeps threatening these plans.
Balochistan is Pakistan’s biggest province, yet it remains among the least developed. It has faced a long separatist movement, and attacks like this one have grown more frequent in recent years.
Police said teams reached the site right after the blast and sealed off the area. Officials are now trying to find out who helped plan the attack.
This marks the second major suicide bombing by the BLA in the province in under two months. In May, a similar attack hit a train in Quetta, killing dozens.
Separatist groups claim the government takes Balochistan’s resources without giving back enough to local people. Islamabad denies this and says it is investing in the region’s growth.
