Gilgit-Baltistan Election Race Intensifies Across 24 Constituencies
Major Parties Face Tough Challenge in GB Polls
Islambad: (Web Desk) The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections are being held across 24 directly contested constituencies, with 403 candidates vying for seats in a crucial political contest that will shape the region’s next government.
Major national parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), are facing strong competition from PTI-backed independent candidates as well as influential regional groups such as Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and Balawaristan National Front (BNF-Naji). A party must secure at least 17 seats in the 33-member assembly to form a government independently.
Several constituencies have emerged as key battlegrounds, particularly in Gilgit and Skardu, where prominent political figures are seeking to strengthen their parties’ positions. Former chief ministers, regional party leaders, nationalist politicians, and influential independents are all contesting high-profile races.

Meanwhile, electoral dynamics in areas such as Diamer, Astore, and Ghanche continue to be shaped by local alliances, tribal influence, and community-based support networks. The outcome of these elections is expected to play a significant role in determining the political direction of Gilgit-Baltistan over the coming years.
