Government Bans Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee, Citing Security Concerns

Muzaffarabad/Islamabad-(Mudassar Iqbal/News Desk)- The Home Department of the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has issued a significant notification declaring the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) a proscribed organization under the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Terrorism Act, 2014.

According to the notification, the organization, along with entities operating under the names Jammu Kashmir Action Committee, Joint Awami Action Committee, and Awami Action Committee, has been included in the First Schedule of the anti-terrorism legislation. The move was approved by the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir following recommendations from relevant authorities.

The Home Department stated that there is sufficient evidence indicating the group’s involvement in activities deemed harmful to public peace, security, and the overall stability of the state. Officials said the organization has allegedly been engaged in actions that create unrest and disrupt law and order in various parts of the region.

The notification further claims that the committee has been involved in spreading fear among the public and contributing to a sense of insecurity within society. Authorities have also accused the organization of promoting hatred and engaging in activities that negatively affect social harmony and state security.

Under Section 12 of the AJK Anti-Terrorism Act, 2014, the organization has formally been declared a prohibited entity. The government has also listed all known alternative names under which the group may operate in an effort to prevent any future activities under different identities.

Officials emphasized that legal action will be taken against the banned organization in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. The Home Department stated that the decision was made to safeguard public order and ensure the protection of citizens across the region.

Copies of the notification have been circulated to all relevant authorities, including AJK ministers, the Federal Ministry of Interior, law enforcement agencies, and other concerned institutions. The document has also been sent to the President, Prime Minister, Chief Secretary, and secretaries of various departments within the AJK government.

Additionally, deputy commissioners, senior police officials, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and Special Branch authorities have been directed to implement the notification. Administrative and police officials across the Muzaffarabad, Poonch, and Mirpur divisions have also been instructed to ensure compliance.

The AJK government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, upholding the rule of law, and protecting public safety, stating that no organization will be allowed to endanger public order, security, or the state’s constitutional framework.
