OGDC Discovers New Oil and Gas Reserves at Bobi Deep-1 in Sindh

Pakistan Energy Boost as New Reserves Discovered in Sindh

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (Oil and Gas Development Company Limited) has announced the discovery of new oil and gas reserves in Sanghar district of Sindh, marking a fresh addition to Pakistan’s domestic energy resources.

According to official communication submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the discovery was made at the Babi Deep-1 well, where initial production has already commenced.

The newly identified reserves are estimated to produce around 2,000 barrels of crude oil per day along with approximately 1.1 million cubic feet of natural gas daily, providing a meaningful boost to local energy output.

OGDCL confirmed that the hydrocarbon reserves were found in the Lower Goru formation within the Babi and Dhamaraki lease area in Sanghar. The well has reached a depth of about 3,030 metres, where the presence of oil and gas was verified.

The company described the discovery as a significant exploration milestone and noted that it is a 100 per cent company-owned project, underscoring its strategic importance for future exploration efforts in the region.

Energy officials believe the find could help strengthen Pakistan’s energy security by reducing reliance on imported hydrocarbons and improving domestic supply levels.

Experts also suggest that the discovery may encourage further exploration activity in surrounding areas, potentially unlocking additional reserves.

At a time when Pakistan continues to face energy demand pressures, such developments are seen as important steps toward improving long-term energy stability and self-sufficiency.
