US Congressman claims 39 US Air Force aircraft were destroyed in Iran war

US Lawmaker Questions Pentagon Over Reported Aircraft Losses Against Iran

WASHINGTON: (Web Desk) – US Democratic Congressman Ed Case claimed during a Senate committee hearing that the United States had lost dozens of military aircraft since the conflict with Iran began on February 28, citing a report published by The War Zone.

While questioning Pentagon Chief Financial Officer Jay Hurst, Case referred to reports suggesting that nearly 39 US aircraft had been destroyed during the war. He also asked whether the Pentagon had estimated the financial impact of replacing or repairing the damaged aircraft.

In response, Hurst acknowledged that the losses could involve substantial costs but stated that the Pentagon was still carrying out assessments before determining the exact figures. He explained that aircraft repair evaluations require detailed technical inspections before accurate estimates can be made.

According to the report mentioned during the hearing, the US Air Force allegedly carried out almost 13,000 missions during the conflict. The publication claimed that 39 aircraft were destroyed while 10 others suffered varying levels of damage, including reports involving an F-35A Lightning II and a Boeing E-3 Sentry.

However, the reported losses have not been independently verified, and Pentagon officials did not publicly confirm the figures during the hearing. Regional tensions escalated after US and Israeli strikes on Iran triggered retaliatory attacks across the Gulf region before a ceasefire was later reached through Pakistani mediation efforts.
