Iranian Team Melli Training Camp Set In Arizona
Tucson Prepares To Host Iranian Football Team Amid Global Tensions
TEHRAN: (Web Desk)- The US city of Tucson in Arizona is preparing to host Iran’s national football team, known as Iran national football team, as part of its base camp arrangements for an upcoming global football tournament organized under FIFA.
Local officials at the Kino Sports Complex say preparations are already underway, with pitches being maintained to professional standards and training facilities readied for the visiting squad. The venue will provide access to gyms, recovery areas, and full training infrastructure for the team during their stay.
Despite ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the United States and Iran, organizers have confirmed that Iran’s participation in the tournament remains unchanged. City officials say planning has continued under the assumption that the team’s arrival is confirmed unless otherwise instructed by FIFA.
Kino Sports Complex director Sarah Hanna said multiple coordination meetings are taking place each week to finalize logistics, including food services, ground preparation, and compliance inspections from tournament officials.
FIFA has emphasized that all qualified teams will participate as scheduled, and Tucson is moving forward with preparations accordingly.
However, political uncertainty continues to surround the visit. Past statements from US political leadership have raised questions about security and diplomatic sensitivity, although local organizers insist the focus remains on sport rather than politics.
Officials in Tucson, including FC Tucson representatives, have stressed that the city aims to provide a welcoming environment for all participating teams and to support international sporting cooperation.
At the same time, reactions within the local community remain mixed. Some residents view the event as a positive example of sports diplomacy, while others—particularly within parts of the Iranian diaspora—express concern due to political tensions between Iran and Western governments.
