Punjab govt speeds up work on Rawalpindi-Murree glass train project
Officials said the project is likely to be completed within 28 months under the supervision of the Punjab government.
RAWALPINDI: (Web Desk) -The Punjab government has accelerated work on the proposed Rawalpindi-Murree Tourist Glass Train under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Vision Transport 2030 initiative.
The project includes a 40-kilometre elevated rail system designed to provide modern transport along with scenic views of the Murree hills. The train will have panoramic glass coaches, allowing passengers to enjoy uninterrupted views throughout the journey.
According to officials, four modern stations will be established along the route, including Ghora Gali, Chattar Park and Lake View Station, linking major tourist points between Rawalpindi and Murree.

The service will operate eight train sets, each consisting of four glass coaches, and is expected to carry more than 11,700 passengers daily. The standard ticket fare has been proposed at Rs400 per person, while a premium class ticket will cost Rs1,000.
The project is estimated to cost Rs11.78 billion and aims to improve accessibility to the hill station while boosting tourism and local transport facilities.
The PC-I of the project was approved in November 2025. The Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) process is scheduled to begin in December 2025, with bids expected to be submitted by March 2026.
