In welcome news for inflation-stricken citizens, petroleum prices in Pakistan are expected to decrease by up to Rs6.50 per liter, according to initial internal working shared by official sources.
The revised price summary is being prepared ahead of the government’s next review cycle.
Sources say the preliminary calculations indicate substantial relief across major petroleum products.
According to the initial working:
- Petrol may be reduced by Rs3.70 per liter
- High-speed diesel may decrease by Rs4.28 per liter
- Kerosene is expected to see a major cut of Rs7.3 per liter
- Light diesel oil could become cheaper by Rs6.35 per liter
Officials say these projections are based on global oil price trends and adjustments in import costs.
The complete pricing summary will be forwarded to the government on November 30, after which the final decision will rest with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Once approved, the revised prices will take effect in the next fortnightly fuel price announcement.
With inflation still squeezing households, the anticipated reduction has sparked optimism among consumers and transporters. If approved, the price cuts are likely to ease pressure on daily commuting, transport fares, and overall living costs.
On Nov 16, the government kept the petrol and diesel prices unchanged for the next fortnight.
According to a notification issued by the Finance Ministry, the petrol price remained stable at Rs248.38 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel remained unchanged at Rs255.14 per litre.
The price of kerosene oil remained stable at Rs161.54 per litre.
