Real Madrid’s Antonio Rüdiger Suffers Thigh Injury, Ruled Out of LaLiga Clash

His absence will be a blow to Carlo Ancelotti’s defence, with Madrid in a crucial phase of the season.

MADRID – Real Madrid centre-back Antonio Rüdiger has sustained a left thigh injury, the club confirmed on Friday, ruling him out of their upcoming LaLiga fixture against Real Sociedad.

In an official statement, the club said:

“Following tests conducted on Toni Rüdiger by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the rectus femoris muscle in his left leg.”

The club did not specify the duration of his recovery.

The 32-year-old German international had featured in both of Germany’s World Cup qualifiers earlier this month but was omitted from Real Madrid’s squad list for Saturday’s league match, according to Spanish media reports.

Rüdiger, who previously played for Chelsea and Roma, underwent knee surgery in April to repair a partial tear in the external meniscus. He made his return in June during the Club World Cup.
