KP Govt Releases Rs800m Relief Funds, Rs500m for Worst-Hit Buner Districts in Floods

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – (Special – Correspondent / Web Desk) – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has released Rs800 million in relief funds to support flood-hit districts, while an additional Rs500 million has been allocated specifically for Buner — the worst-affected region. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), catastrophic floods have so far claimed 325 lives in KP, while the nationwide toll from rain-related incidents since late June has climbed to 657.

Buner district alone has reported 217 deaths and 120 injuries, making it the epicenter of devastation. Shangla followed with 36 deaths and 21 injuries, while Mansehra and Bajaur each recorded more than 20 fatalities. Swat has reported 17 deaths but suffered massive infrastructure damage, with more than 200 houses destroyed and over 160 cattle lost. Other districts, including Lower Dir, Battagram, and Nowshera, also faced casualties and severe damage to homes and livestock.

Federal and Provincial Governments Join Hands to Ensure Fast Rescue, Relief, and Restoration Work in Flood-Hit Areas

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar emphasized that restoration of flood-affected areas is a national obligation. He assured that federal and provincial governments are working collectively, alongside the armed forces and humanitarian agencies, to speed up rescue, relief, and restoration operations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed ministers of water, power, and communications to be physically present in affected areas to supervise efforts.

Authorities are also focusing on restoring key infrastructure, including roads in Malakand Division and the Skardu-Gilgit route, ensuring timely support for cut-off communities. The government has pledged continuous monitoring, early warning alerts, and coordinated action to minimize further losses.
