ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The Health Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported a significant rise in HIV infections, with 481 new cases recorded during the first four months of 2026, raising concern among health experts and authorities.
According to officials, the total number of registered HIV cases in the province has now reached 10,281, compared to 9,800 last year, reflecting a worrying upward trend in infections.
Dr Tariq Hayat, head of the provincial AIDS Control Program, said the increase represents a serious public health challenge that requires immediate attention and coordinated response.
Over 2,000 Pakistani Children Diagnosed With HIV
Health data shows that among the total reported cases, 7,178 are men, 2,381 are women, and 235 are transgender individuals. Officials also confirmed that 487 children under the age of 15 are living with the virus.
Experts have warned that although treatment facilities are available, stronger awareness campaigns, preventive strategies, and early diagnosis systems are urgently needed to control the spread of the disease in the province.
