UAE Travelers Urged to Review Updated Cabin Baggage Rules at Dubai & Sharjah Airports
Baby food and prescription medicines must be presented separately and may require proof of authenticity
DUBAI — Passengers flying from the UAE are being reminded to carefully review updated guidelines on what can and cannot be carried in cabin baggage as Dubai and Sharjah airports tighten restrictions on prohibited and restricted items.
The advisory comes in the wake of Emirates’ recent announcement banning the use of power banks onboard flights starting October 2025.
Dubai Airport: What’s Banned and Restricted
Dubai Airports has issued a detailed list of prohibited items that are not allowed in carry-on luggage, including:

Sharp tools such as hammers, nails, and screwdrivers

Scissors with blades longer than 6cm

Swords, handcuffs, firearms, and ammunition

Laser guns, walkie-talkies, and martial arts weapons

Lighters (only one lighter permitted per passenger)

Bats, drills, ropes, packing tape, and electrical cables (except for personal travel use)
Restricted items allowed only under specific conditions include:

Liquids: Maximum 100ml per container, up to 10 containers (1 litre total)

Medication: Must be accompanied by a doctor’s prescription

Medical devices: Passengers with metal implants require a doctor’s certificate

Power banks: Must not exceed 100Wh; devices between 100–160Wh may be permitted depending on the airline, but use onboard is banned
Sharjah Airport: Prohibited and Restricted Items
Sharjah Airport maintains a similar but distinct list of banned items in both cabin and checked baggage, including:

Bludgeons, baseball bats, flammable gases and liquids

Hazardous chemicals, corrosives, infectious substances

Firearms, explosives, fireworks, and dangerous goods

Knives with blades over 6cm, hunting knives, martial arts devices

Radioactive materials, toxic gases, and disabling devices like tear gas

Suspicious or imitation weapons, straight razors, elongated scissors
Restricted items allowed under strict conditions include:

Liquids: Up to 100ml in a clear, resealable plastic bag (20cm x 20cm)

Travelers Advised to Check Airline Rules
Airport authorities caution that while these guidelines set the baseline, individual airlines may impose additional restrictions. Passengers are strongly encouraged to verify the latest baggage policies with their airline before traveling to avoid delays or confiscations at security.
