Pakistan, US Advance Talks on Reciprocal Trade Framework Agreement

WASHINGTON: (Finance Reporter) – Pakistan and the United States have reported substantial progress in negotiations on a proposed reciprocal trade framework, reaffirming their shared commitment to finalizing the agreement at the earliest opportunity.

The development came during a meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, and United States Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer, where both sides reviewed the latest progress in discussions aimed at expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Referring to earlier discussions held in Washington, Senator Aurangzeb appreciated the consistent efforts of both negotiating teams and commended the constructive approach that has helped move the talks forward.

The finance minister emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum in line with Pakistan’s economic objectives. He noted that a stronger trade and investment relationship with the United States would boost the country’s export-driven growth strategy, strengthen economic stability, and create new business opportunities for companies in both nations. He also highlighted the value of continued collaboration with the US Export-Import Bank to support trade and investment initiatives.

Ambassador Greer praised Pakistan’s sustained engagement throughout the negotiations and acknowledged the country’s progress on labour and regulatory reforms, including measures addressing forced labour compliance. He expressed confidence that the remaining issues could be resolved through continued technical-level discussions.

Both sides agreed to accelerate technical consultations and maintain close coordination to complete the remaining aspects of the reciprocal trade framework. They expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved so far and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the long-standing economic partnership between Pakistan and the United States.

The meeting was also attended by Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul and senior officials from the Office of the United States Trade Representative.
