PCB and CWI to Decide ODI Series Fate During ICC Meeting in Singapore

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) will meet during the upcoming ICC Annual General Meeting in Singapore to discuss the fate of the three-match ODI series scheduled for August in the Caribbean.

While the PCB has officially requested that the ODI leg be converted into T20Is to aid their preparation for the 2025 Asia Cup and the 2026 T20 World Cup, CWI appears firm on sticking to the original itinerary and retaining the 50-over format. According to Geo Super, a final decision is expected shortly after discussions take place during the ICC meetings.

Like the PCB, CWI has its own reasons for preferring the ODIs. The board is keen to rebuild its one-day squad after missing out on qualification for the 2023 ODI World Cup and sees the upcoming series as a vital step in its long-term planning. In fact, CWI has reportedly already started ticket sales for both the T20I and ODI fixtures.

“The schedule remains as it is, and we continue to engage with the PCB on the matter,” said CWI CEO Chris Dehring, confirming that talks are ongoing.

The three T20Is are locked in for Florida on July 31, August 2, and August 3. The ODI series, if it goes ahead as scheduled following the PCB and CWI meeting, is set for August 8, 10, and 12 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.

Pakistan’s trip to the USA and the West Indies will come immediately after their T20I series against Bangladesh. The PCB is waiting on the outcome of the Singapore meetings before announcing the squad for the Caribbean tour.

The final decision will determine whether the West Indies tour ends with ODIs, becomes a full-fledged T20I series, or results in a compromise from each side.
