Weekly inflation rises 0.95%
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday reported a 0.95% increase in weekly inflation, reflecting notable changes in the prices of essential household items.
Despite the weekly hike, the annual inflation rate showed a decline, standing at -1.23% year-on-year, indicating some long-term relief for consumers.
The PBS data revealed that prices of 19 essential commodities rose over the past week, while only six items registered a decrease. The cost of chicken saw the steepest rise, surging by Rs78.32 per kg — from Rs346.34 to Rs424.66. Tomatoes also became pricier by Rs10.56 per kg, while onions increased by Rs3.34 per kg. Garlic prices went up by Rs8.44 per kg.
Sugar prices climbed from Rs184 to Rs188.44 per kg, reflecting a Rs3.52 increase. Other items that saw price hikes included jaggery (gur), eggs, fresh milk, yoghurt, bananas, and black gram (daal maash).
On the other hand, some relief was observed in domestic LPG prices, which dropped by Rs82.98 per cylinder. Mung beans (daal moong) also became cheaper, with a Rs1.65 per kg decline. Reductions were also recorded in the prices of wheat flour, Dalda ghee, and cooking oil.
Prices of 26 essential goods — including bread, beef, mutton, salt, and tea — remained unchanged throughout the week, showing stability in a portion of the consumer market.
