Pakistan Urges Dialogue, Restraint Over Iran Nuclear Tensions

Pakistan Calls for Diplomacy, Peaceful Resolution of Regional Nuclear Disputes

NEW YORK: (Special Reporter) – Pakistan has expressed serious concern over rising tensions in the region, emphasizing that further escalation serves no one’s interests and could negatively impact regional and international peace, security, and prosperity.

Speaking at a UN Security Council briefing on the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015), Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, called for an immediate end to the cycle of violence and instability while urging all parties to exercise restraint.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar stressed that sustained engagement, dialogue, and diplomacy remain the only viable path toward achieving lasting peace and stability. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for resolving all outstanding issues, including the Iran nuclear matter, through peaceful negotiations and diplomatic channels.

He highlighted the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed last month as an important framework for addressing unresolved issues through constructive talks and reaching a mutually acceptable agreement. The ambassador cautioned that any disruption to the diplomatic process could further complicate efforts toward a solution.

Pakistan urged all stakeholders to honor their commitments under the Islamabad MoU, describing it as a foundation for mutual understanding, cooperation, and shared regional prosperity.

The ambassador noted that Pakistan, alongside international partners, has continued constructive diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions, supporting ceasefire initiatives, and promoting regional stability. He welcomed progress achieved during expert-level discussions and expressed hope for continued positive engagement between the parties.
