Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while speaking at the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in Khankandi, emphasized the need for enhanced regional collaboration, immediate climate action, and collective resilience against destabilizing elements.
During his keynote address on Friday, the Prime Minister extended his congratulations to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for successfully organizing the summit. He also expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended in the historic city of Khankandi and acknowledged the contributions of Kazakhstan’s president in advancing regional unity as the current ECO chair.
Discussing the fast-changing global technological environment, PM Shehbaz noted, “We are stepping into an age marked by growing interdependence and the expansion of knowledge. Technological advancement plays a vital role in strengthening regional ties and promoting shared growth. Pakistan stands committed to working alongside member nations for collective progress.”
Referring to the summit’s theme, “Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future”, the Prime Minister called it both relevant and urgent. He highlighted the serious environmental challenges faced by ECO nations, such as glacial melt, rising temperatures, and destructive floods. These climate-related issues, he warned, are threatening food security and the livelihoods of millions across the region.
