LAHORE: (Staff Reporter) – Two more sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, have been detained in Lahore, a day after their sister Aleema Khan was taken into custody.

According to the Lahore deputy commissioner’s office, detention orders for Uzma and Noreen were issued under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance on a recommendation from police. Both women have been ordered to remain in custody for 30 days.

The two sisters were subsequently shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail during the early hours of Monday. Their detention comes ahead of PTI’s planned nationwide protest and march towards Islamabad on September 27.

The action followed a media talk by Uzma and Noreen in Lahore, during which they spoke about Aleema Khan’s detention. They were later taken into custody, according to reports.

The detention order, dated September 20, states that the authorities considered the presence of Uzma and Noreen potentially prejudicial to public safety and the maintenance of public order. It alleges that the two had previously been involved in the May 9 protests and had encouraged party workers to damage public and government property.

The order further alleges that the sisters were using social media and public gatherings to mobilise workers and could contribute to a law-and-order situation. It also refers to multiple cases, including a case registered at Race Course Police Station.

According to the order, the decision was considered during a meeting chaired by Lahore Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz, where police presented evidence regarding the two women. The deputy commissioner subsequently ordered their detention for 30 days.

The latest detentions come amid heightened political activity ahead of PTI’s September 27 protest. The party has said the demonstration is aimed at demanding Imran Khan’s release and what it describes as the supremacy of the Constitution.

Earlier, Aleema Khan was also detained for 30 days under the MPO and shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail. Reports said her sons were briefly detained as well but were later released.
