Central Israel on High Alert as Missile Fired from Yemen Sets Off Sirens

Israel’s military reported that a surface-to-surface missile was fired from Yemen on Sunday, landing in an unpopulated area in central Israel without causing any injuries. Air raid sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and surrounding areas at approximately 6:35 a.m. local time, prompting residents to seek shelter.

The military confirmed that a missile had entered Israeli airspace from the east and fallen in an open area, triggering loud booms from missile interceptors. No changes were made to the military’s protective guidelines for residents.

A Reuters witness observed smoke billowing in an open field in central Israel, although it was unclear whether the fire was caused by the missile or debris from an interceptor.

This incident follows a July attack by Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen, who fired a long-range drone at Tel Aviv, resulting in one fatality and four injuries. Israel responded with a significant airstrike on Houthi military targets near Yemen’s Hodeidah port, causing at least three deaths and 87 injuries.

Additionally, the Israeli military reported that 40 projectiles were launched from Lebanon on Sunday, either intercepted or landing in open areas without causing injuries.
