Earlier this year, Trump paused a large arms deal with Taiwan worth around fourteen billion dollars. Some of his allies worry he might trade away support for Taiwan to get economic wins from China.

The meeting also came at a tricky time for Trump. He is dealing with a tense situation involving Iran, and energy prices have gone up because of it. This has added pressure on him ahead of the coming elections.

Experts say the tone from each leader tells its own story. Trump talked about a personal friendship with Xi. Xi, on the other hand, focused more on the relationship between the two nations rather than any personal connection. Analysts believe this shows how differently each side is approaching the moment.

AI was also part of the conversation. Xi said both countries need to make sure AI stays under human control. Given how competitive the two nations are in this space, most experts do not expect anything beyond simple, symbolic agreements.

Iran came up too. Xi expressed support for the US and Iran returning to a ceasefire and eventually working toward peace. Still, there is little sign that China plans to pressure Iran directly.

Interestingly, no major US TV network aired the meeting live. This happened because several networks are protesting the White House ban on certain news outlets.

In the end, the summit was rich in symbolism but short on solutions. Both leaders walked away sounding friendly, but the hard questions on trade, Taiwan, and AI are still waiting to be solved.
