Pakistan Stands Shoulder to Shoulder with Saudi Arabia Amid Houthi Attacks, Says PM Shehbaz

PM Shehbaz Sharif reaffirms Pakistan’s unwavering support for Saudi Arabia, condemning Houthi attacks and pledging stronger bilateral cooperation and regional security.

Pakistan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity amid escalating Houthi attacks, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday.

The assurance came during a meeting in Islamabad with Saudi Arabia’s newly appointed ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Rajeh Tami Albugamy. Welcoming the envoy, Shehbaz congratulated him on assuming his diplomatic responsibilities and expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to strengthen during his tenure.

The prime minister highlighted the significant progress in Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations in recent years and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation through established institutional mechanisms. He said both countries remained committed to deepening their partnership across economic, political and security sectors.

Shehbaz also strongly condemned the recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, expressing concern over civilian casualties, including Pakistani nationals reportedly among those killed or injured.

His remarks followed a briefing by the Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen, which accused the Houthis of targeting airports, ports and oil infrastructure across the kingdom.

Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki said the group had carried out 20 attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh this month. According to the coalition, the incidents killed 17 people and injured 333 others. These figures were presented by the coalition and were not independently verified in the statement.

During the meeting, Shehbaz underscored the longstanding solidarity between Islamabad and Riyadh, citing the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement and the Makkah Joint Defence Alliance as milestones in their security relationship.

He thanked the Saudi leadership for its continued economic and financial assistance to Pakistan and assured the ambassador of Islamabad’s full cooperation in further strengthening bilateral ties.

The meeting reaffirmed both countries’ stated commitment to close diplomatic coordination and regional stability. Both sides also emphasized continued engagement to address shared regional challenges.
