World Leaders Hail Pakistan-India Ceasefire, Urge Dialogue and Lasting Peace

ISLAMABAD/WASHINGTON: World leaders across the globe have welcomed the “full and immediate ceasefire” agreement between Pakistan and India, announced on Saturday following several days of escalating military strikes and counterstrikes. The ceasefire was confirmed by U.S. President Donald Trump, who praised both nations for their “common sense and great intelligence” in stepping back from the brink.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also hailed the development, commending Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif for choosing peace and agreeing to start comprehensive talks at a neutral location. Bangladesh’s interim leader Muhammad Yunus offered support for continued diplomacy, while EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas described the truce as “vital” and urged both countries to uphold the agreement. Other voices of support came from British Foreign Minister David Lammy, Germany’s Foreign Office, Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini, and Saudi Arabia, all calling the move a critical step toward regional stability. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to President Trump for his proactive leadership, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to lasting peace through dialogue.
