TVK Forms Government In Tamil Nadu With Coalition Support Parties

MUMBAI: (Web Desk) – Indian actor-turned-politician S. Joseph Vijay has reportedly been sworn in as the Chief Minister of the southern state of Tamil Nadu, following his party’s strong performance in the state assembly elections, according to Indian media reports.

His political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the largest grouping in the 234-member assembly, securing support from allied parties to form the government. The victory was further strengthened by backing from several political groups, helping the alliance reach around 120 seats.

Soon after taking oath, Vijay announced a series of welfare measures, including free electricity of up to 200 units for domestic consumers. He also signed executive orders aimed at establishing a special force for women’s safety and intensifying anti-narcotics operations across the state.

In his first public address at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, he described his government as the beginning of a “new era” based on social justice and secular values. He also expressed gratitude to coalition partners, including the Indian National Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), and Left parties for their support.

Vijay also thanked young voters, saying that Gen Z played a decisive role in his party’s success by influencing broader family voting patterns. He emphasized that he did not come from a political dynasty, adding that his journey was shaped by poverty and struggle.

“I am just like you, one among you. I am not an angel, I am an ordinary man,” he told supporters during his address.

Reports further noted that Vijay’s long-standing association with opposition leader Rahul Gandhi played a role in securing broader political support for the coalition.
