Washington: U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller has expressed concern over the sentencing of 25 Pakistani citizens by a military court.
In his statement, Miller noted that the individuals were sentenced for their involvement in the May 9 protests. He emphasized that military courts lack guarantees of judicial independence, transparency, and fairness.
Miller urged Pakistani authorities to respect the constitutional right to a fair trial and justice.

This concern follows similar statements from the United Kingdom and the European Union. The UK had expressed that military court decisions lack transparency and independent scrutiny, undermining the right to a fair hearing. The European Union also expressed concern over the sentences handed down by the military court on December 21.
