Pakistan and Türkiye deepen collaboration on flood management systems

ISLAMABAD: (News Desk) – A technical delegation led by TİKA has visited Pakistan to explore stronger bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in flood management, climate resilience, and early warning systems.

The delegation included experts from Türkiye’s Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), and the General Directorate for Water Management. During the visit, they held detailed consultations with key Pakistani institutions including the National Disaster Management Authority, Pakistan Meteorological Department, Water and Power Development Authority, and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.

A key meeting was held with Secretary Climate Change Aisha Humera Chaudhary and senior officials, where both sides discussed strengthening cooperation in disaster preparedness and climate adaptation strategies. The discussions focused on shared challenges and joint solutions in managing floods and environmental risks.

Pakistan China Discuss Green Finance and Climate Cooperation

Both countries exchanged technical insights on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), river basin management, glacier and avalanche monitoring, desertification control, and climate-resilient infrastructure. They also explored collaboration in early warning systems, hydrometeorological monitoring, zero-waste initiatives, training programs, and research-based climate solutions.

The Turkish delegation also visited flood management and hydrometeorological facilities in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Lahore, including telemetry stations and forecasting centers, where experts from both sides reviewed data-driven flood prediction systems and community resilience approaches.

Officials said the visit reflects the long-standing friendly relations between Türkiye and Pakistan and highlights their shared commitment to tackling climate change, natural disasters, and environmental risks through joint cooperation and technology sharing.
