Trump publicly blasts NATO allies after closed-door meeting with Rutte

Trump Renews NATO Threats After Secret White House Meeting With Rutte

NATO  – (Web Desk) – US President Donald Trump went after NATO again. This time it happened right after he met privately with NATO chief Mark Rutte at the White House. People were already worried Trump might pull America out of the alliance completely.

Why was he so angry? Trump was furious that NATO countries refused to back him during his war against Iran. That really set him off.

After the meeting he went straight to Truth Social. He wrote in all caps that NATO was not there when America needed them. He also threw in a random warning about Greenland. Just three words. No explanation. Classic Trump.

Rutte is known for being good with Trump. People actually call him the “Trump whisperer” because he knows how to handle him. He came in through a side gate and their meeting stayed private the whole time.

Later Rutte spoke to CNN. He called the talk very open and very frank. But when reporters asked him directly if Trump threatened to leave NATO he dodged the question every single time.

Even the White House confirmed it. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that leaving NATO was something Trump had talked about before and would likely bring up in the meeting.

The Wall Street Journal added something interesting. Trump was also thinking about punishing certain NATO members by pulling American troops out of their countries.

All of this happened just one day after the US and Iran agreed to a shaky two week ceasefire.

Trump has called NATO a paper tiger. He is angry that they would not help open the Strait of Hormuz. He also personally attacked UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and even made fun of Britain’s aircraft carriers calling them toys.

The plan reported by the Wall Street Journal would fall short of Trump’s oft-hinted threats to pull the United States out of NATO entirely — a move for which he would need the approval of Congress.

NATO’s secretary general, however, boasts a record of pulling Trump back onto his side.

Ahead of the White House visit, Rutte met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to talk about Iran, Russia’s war against Ukraine and NATO responsibilities.

“The two leaders discussed Operation Epic Fury, ongoing US-led efforts to bring a negotiated end to the Russia-Ukraine war, and increasing coordination and burden shifting with NATO Allies,” said State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott.

Rutte is also expected to meet with Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth during his time in Washington.

NATO has been buffeted by crisis after crisis since Trump returned to power last year — most acutely by his threat to seize Greenland.

In recent months he has also pulled the rug out from under Ukraine in its war against Russia and threatened to not protect allies unless they spend more on defense.

Russia and China have been watching with glee as Trump rubbishes the alliance.

Rutte has been central to allied efforts to flatter and mollify the US leader, whom he called “daddy” at a summit last year.

On Iran, he has sought to thread the needle by calling US efforts to degrade Tehran’s military capability something to “applaud.”
