Trump Makes Fresh Pitch for the Nobel Peace Prize Again

US president says he deserves the honour but fears the Norwegian committee may overlook him again.

TRUMP – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – US President Donald Trump says he should win the Nobel Peace Prize, but he admits he is not sure it will happen. He spoke to reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday, just two days before the big announcement.

Trump said he does not know what the judges will decide. He added that the Norwegian Nobel Committee has a habit of passing over people like him.

The 2026 winner will be named on Friday. Since returning to the White House last year, Trump has said many times that he deserves the honour. On Wednesday, he told reporters that the time of year had come around again.

He also said he felt proud to receive the prize in an indirect way last time. Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado won the 2025 award. In January, she handed her medal to Trump while asking for American support for her work in Venezuela.

According to Trump, Machado told him that nobody in history deserves the prize more than he does.

Trump argues that he has earned the award because he stepped into eight conflicts after taking office last January. He often points to these efforts when he talks about peace.

Some countries back his claim. Pakistan has formally nominated him for the prize. The leaders of Israel and Cambodia have also said they put his name forward.

Not everyone agrees with his version of events, though. Some sides in these conflicts dispute the role he played. Fighting has also started again in parts of the world where he claimed success, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and the border between Cambodia and Thailand.

The war in Ukraine is another problem for him. Trump promised to end it on his very first day of his second term. That promise has not come true, and a deal still looks out of reach.

Iran is a harder issue still. Strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran have led to a conflict that has simmered for seven months. It has shaken global energy supplies and pushed up gas prices at home, just before the November midterm elections.

These events make it hard for many people to see him as a likely winner. Critics say a man linked to active wars is an odd choice for a peace award.

Other names are being talked about as favourites this year. They include Pope Leo, the International Criminal Court, and the special rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories.

The committee usually keeps its choice secret until the last moment, so nobody can be sure. The world will know the answer on Friday, when the winner is announced in Norway.

For now, Trump says he hopes for the best but expects little. Whether the judges agree with him will be clear very soon.
