Madrid: (Web Desk)  Spanish World Cup winner and former Barcelona winger Pedro Rodriguez has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 39.

Pedro was part of Spain’s historic 2010 World Cup-winning squad and enjoyed a highly successful career with Barcelona, Chelsea, Roma and Lazio.

During his time at Barcelona, Pedro won three Champions League titles, including victories in 2009 and 2011 under manager Pep Guardiola. He also claimed five La Liga titles with the Catalan club.

The Tenerife-born forward joined Barcelona’s youth academy as a teenager before making his first-team debut in 2008. He quickly became an important member of Guardiola’s side, which famously won six trophies in 2009.

Pedro scored in Barcelona’s 2011 Champions League final victory over Manchester United and finished his career at the club with 99 goals in 321 appearances. He shared the pitch with some of football’s biggest stars, including Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez.

In a farewell message, Pedro said he felt the time had come to begin a new chapter in his life, adding that he was proud to have achieved his footballing dream.

With Spain, Pedro won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship. He made 65 appearances for the national team and scored 17 goals.

Pedro moved to Chelsea in 2015 and helped the English club win the Premier League title in 2017. He also lifted the FA Cup and Europa League during his time at Stamford Bridge.

He later played for Roma before joining Lazio, where he made more than 200 appearances. Lazio was the final club of his professional career, with Pedro departing at the end of last season.
