Trump Beijing Visit: US and China Agree to Work as Partners, Not Rivals
Trump Beijing Visit Marks a Major Step Toward Rebuilding US-China Relations
Trump Visit China – (Web Desk) – US President Donald Trump made his long-awaited Trump Beijing visit on Thursday, sitting down with Chinese President Xi Jinping for a high-stakes two-day summit. The two leaders shook hands at the iconic Great Hall of the People, signaling a new chapter in one of the world’s most watched relationships.
Xi Jinping set the tone early. He told Trump that a strong and stable relationship between the two countries is good for the entire world. “Cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation harms both. We should be partners and not rivals,” Xi said.
The welcome was warm and grand. A Chinese military band played the US national anthem as cannons fired. Schoolchildren in colorful outfits waved American and Chinese flags, chanting “welcome” as the two leaders walked by.
Trump did not come alone. He brought some of America’s biggest business names with him, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Tesla’s Elon Musk. This showed that Trump’s top priority was striking business deals, particularly in farming, aircraft, and technology.
Trade was a big topic. The two countries have been locked in a bitter trade war, with tariffs topping 100 percent on both sides. Trump and Xi are now looking at extending a one-year tariff pause they first agreed on during a meeting in South Korea last October.
Iran also came up. China buys most of Iran’s oil, even though the US has placed strict sanctions on it. Trump said he expected a long discussion about Iran. His Secretary of State Marco Rubio added that the US hopes China will take a more active role in pushing Iran to back down in the Persian Gulf.
Taiwan was on the table too. Trump hinted he might discuss US arms sales to Taiwan with Xi — something past US governments have refused to do. This raised eyebrows in Taiwan and among US allies across Asia.
Other key issues included China’s limits on rare earth exports and the growing competition between the two countries in artificial intelligence.
By the evening, the leaders sat together for a state banquet. Trump also visited the Temple of Heaven, a historic site where China’s ancient emperors once prayed.
Trump is hoping to leave Beijing with a confirmed date for Xi to visit the United States later in 2026.
